Nikolaos Avouris is a professor emeritus of Software Engineering and Human-Computer Interaction at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Patras since 2024. He has extensive teaching and research experience of over 40 years. He served at the University of Patras (Associate Professor, 1994-2001; Professor, 2001-2024 ), University of Manchester, UK (Research Fellow, 1983-1984), Athens Technical Education College (Assistant Professor, 1985-1986), European Commission, Joint Research Centre Ispra, Italy (Scientific Officer, 1986-1993), and Public Power Corporation of Greece (Senior Software Engineer, 1993-1994).
He has participated as a principal investigator in numerous national and international research projects. His current research interests include Human-Computer Interaction, Interactive Systems Design, and the application of knowledge-based techniques across educational, industrial, and cultural domains.
He has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific papers, books and technical reports. He is a senior member of the Association of Computing Machinary (ACM), Greek Computer Society (since 1992), and a founding member of the Special Interest Group CHI Greece.
